IEEE: IEEE is the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers. It is a World-wide organization whose members comprise of Engineers from the stream of Electronics, Electrical, Computers, Instrumentation An Introduction : The IEEE (Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers) is a renowned international organization that caters to the needs of over 300,000 professionals all over the world in the Electronics industry. The IEEE was established way back in the year 1884 and currently has its headquarters in New Jersey, USA. During its long and illustrious history, many famous scientists, teachers and professionals have been dedicated members of IEEE, making it the largest institute of its kind in the world. Many a times, the IEEE has provided a major boost to great discoveries by providing financial and educational aid to capable scientists which has brought science to where it stands now. The IEEE continues to enlighten and support its members through aids, journals, research papers and magazines. The IEEE Bombay Chapter : The first branch of IEEE found its existence in India about half a century ago. Since then the popularity of IEEE has increased tremendously so that IEEE branches have been established all over India. The IEEE Bombay Chapter is one of the largest IEEE Chapters in India. The main aim of the Bombay Chapter is to spread awareness about the current activities, inventions and developments taking place in the electronics industry in the world and to maintain the Indian electronics industry at par with the rest of the world. To this end, the Bombay Chapter organizes seminars, lectures and workshops all year round. All IEEE members have free entry to these programs, which gives them access to state of the art technology and first hand information about the developments in the electronics industry. Fr. C. R. C. E. Student Branch of IEEE : The Fr. C. R. C. E. Student Branch of IEEE was established in 1995 with the initiative of our Vice-Principal Prof. B. R. Prabhu who is himself a senior member of the IEEE Bombay Chapter. The main idea behind establishing a Student Branch was to involve students in the activities of the Bombay Chapter. The students are constantly encouraged to arrange their own activities like quiz contests, debates and workshops. The journals, magazines etc. provided by IEEE helps the students to become acquainted with the industry which is not provided by the University syllabus. This greatly helps students when they enter the industry as professionals and they can adjust to their new environment very easily. The Fr. C. R. C. E. Student Branch comprises of students from SE, TE. and BE (Electronics and Computers). Under the guidance of Prof. B. R. Prabhu and Prof. Sunil Shah, the student branch had organized many events during the past year. Prominent among them was a lecture on NonDestructive Testing (testing using ultrasonic waves) and a workshop on Television Repair and Maintenance. In addition to this student members took part in events organized TSEC where our team won the first prize in the quiz contest. For Details contact : Dr. B. R. Prabhu,
